Description du contenu de l'enseignement :
Over the past few years, artificial intelligence and related tools have firmly cemented themselves as hot button topics about which everyone seems to have an opinion. News about their use and development is evolving on a daily basis. As global powers find themselves in a growing arms race of AI advancement, it can be hard to keep up with what exactly is going on. This semester, students will focus on developing their media literacy skills, through both close readings and broader skimming of current events related to AI, tech, and beyond. Each class will incorporate practicing the four skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with a particular emphasis on reading and listening for L1 students. We will interact with media from diverse sources, from podcasts and blogs to cinema and fiction, to enhance critical thinking skills and develop a strong, varied vocabulary foundation.
In addition to analyzing current events, we will work on fostering the ability to communicate effectively in fast-paced, global workplaces. Students will learn to feel at ease discussing a large range of topics, all while improving grammar, pronunciation, and overall language proficiency. By the end of the course, students will have gained the confidence and skills to navigate conversations in English related to their degree, stay updated on industry news, and communicate effectively in professional, academic, and social contexts.
