This course consists of four sessions à 3 hours.
In session 1, we will discuss the role of evidence synthesis in the scientific process. We will consider different classifications of the scientific literature and discuss where and how to identify relevant documents. We will briefly introduce different databases and AI-supported tools that can be used to find scientific documents and to manage references. We will then discuss the principles and strengths/limitations of systematic and narrative literature reviews.
In session 2, we will first look at tools and checklists that have been developed to assess the evidence identified in a systematic review. We will then discuss meta-analysis and review the most fundamental statistical models for meta-analysis.
Session 3 will build on session 2. We will consider more advanced concepts in meta-analyses and discuss different applications.
