Introduction to legal reasoning

This course in English is designed to give students an introduction to the common law system of England and Wales and to classic Anglo-American themes of legal reasoning. During this course, the students will analyse and explore different patterns of legal reasoning including deductive vs inductive reasoning, theories of statutory interpretation, case-based and analogous reasoning, as well as the use of policy reasoning by the judiciary. The objective is to equip students with an understanding of comparative patterns of legal reasoning by comparing and contrasting the English and French legal systems.
