Doctoral Defence – Jad El Hage

Mr Jad EL HAGE presented and defended his doctoral thesis in a public defence on Tuesday 31 March 2026 at 2:30 p.m., at Université Paris Dauphine – PSL, Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, 75775 Paris Cedex 16, Salle des thèses – D520.
The defence was held with a view to obtaining the Doctorate in Law and was open to the public.
Entitled Review of Investment Arbitration Awards, the thesis was prepared within the Dauphine SDOSE Doctoral School, in the research unit EA 368 – Dauphine Legal Studies, under CNU Section 7 – Social Sciences, and supervised by Sophie Lemaire.

The research focuses on the review of investment arbitration awards in the context of investor‑State dispute settlement. It analyses existing review mechanisms, whether through ICSID ad hoc committees or review by domestic courts, and highlights their limitations in light of the criticisms directed at investment arbitration. The work examines challenges related to the system’s legitimacy and explores the need to develop a specific appeals framework tailored to the particularities of international investment disputes.
