Will and Wisdom: Perspectives on the ICJ Advisory Opinion

On 16 January 2026, Université Paris Dauphine–PSL will host the international seminar “Will and Wisdom: Perspectives on the ICJ Advisory Opinion”, organised by Dauphine Recherches Juridiques and the Journal of Environmental Law.
On the 23 July 2025 the International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered their eagerly anticipated Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in Respect of Climate Change.
In response to this landmark opinion, Dauphine Recherches Juridiques at Dauphine Universitié Paris-PSL and the Journal of Environmental Law are hosting an international workshop to discuss the significance and implications of the decision.
Contributors to the workshop, and a special issue of the Journal of the Environmental Law, will offer in-depth analysis of various aspects of the Advisory Opinion, from the question of reparations to the consequences for the fossil fuel industry.The workshop will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the Advisory Opinion through the creation of a live artwork.
Registration required – the seminar will be held in English.
