Cybersecurity: A Dauphine PhD Graduate Wins International Research Award

Marin François, a recent PhD graduate in computer science, has been honored with a Best Paper Award at a leading international cybersecurity

Marin François, PhD in computer science from Université Paris Dauphine – PSL, received the Best Paper Award at the prestigious IEEE International Conference on Cyber Security and Resilience (CSR 2025) for a research paper focusing on the robustness of AI-based intrusion detection systems.

Defended on June 30, 2025, his doctoral thesis was supervised by Pierre-Emmanuel Arduin (DRM laboratory) and Myriam Merad (LAMSADE). His research explored the vulnerability of certain AI models to so-called "adversarial attacks"—subtle manipulations designed to deceive machine learning systems.

The award-winning paper, titled "Enhancing deep learning based IDS adversarial robustness with causal inference", proposes an innovative approach that combines deep learning with causal inference to improve system resilience. This work addresses key challenges at the crossroads of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The official award ceremony will take place during the conference's awards session on August 5, 2025.
