Mathematician Bruno Bouchard Elected President of Dauphine
On Thursday, November 28, 2024, council members of the Université Paris Dauphine - PSL elected Professor Bruno Bouchard to the presidency.
As the Vice-President of the Scientific Council since 2016, he has been at the forefront of Dauphine's developments, and the structuring of PSL. He has supported or directly led numerous strategic projects.
A Mandate of Consolidation and Development
Mathematics professor Bruno Bouchard, the new President of Université Paris Dauphine - PSL, sees his term of office as one of consolidation and development. Over the past eight years, he has spearheaded significant reforms: enhancing the attractiveness of research labs, expanding internationally, and disseminating scientific knowledge. “The Université Paris Dauphine - PSL is a place of collegiality and innovation, with strong interdisciplinary openness. We will leverage these strengths to continue developing our university in the medium and long term, both in France and internationally.”
A Dauphine Graduate at the Presidency
Bruno Bouchard is a Dauphine alumnus, marking the first time a former student has been elected president of the university. “I was a student, teacher, and researcher at the Université Paris Dauphine - PSL. I have seen our university evolve from the inside while maintaining its unique identity.” The Université Paris Dauphine - PSL aims to provide access to excellence in education, offering opportunities to acquire diverse skills. He added, “Our programs are aligned with societal changes: an education rooted in research that empowers students to take charge of their future, making them enlightened citizens capable of adapting to a constantly evolving world.” Among the initiatives for students, the university will continue its international outreach through its satellite campuses and the introduction of new english-language programs. Students will also be introduced to research as early as their undergraduate studies.
Addressing the Challenges of Tomorrow
In a rapidly changing society, Bruno Bouchard intends to further integrate the challenges of the digital revolution and artificial intelligence, as well as ecological and social transitions, into the university's strategic directions and research. Dauphine's academic programs are already at the forefront in these areas. “Our university positions itself as a world-class institution, known for its innovative education, research, and high-quality working environment. Over the next four years, our ambition is to deepen the initiatives launched during the previous term, with a spirit of collegiality and continuity.” The university’s agenda includes projects that intertwine research, education, and societal engagement: the Paris School of AI, AI applications for research, PSL’s Institute of Public Action, the web media Dauphine Éclairages, open science initiatives, implementation of the DD&RSE strategy, the Dauphine Durable program, PSL’s major research initiatives, student mobility, new interdisciplinary minors within PSL, dual-programs, the consolidation of strategic international partnerships, housing policies, and more.

About Bruno Bouchard
Bruno Bouchard studied at Dauphine, becoming the first Dauphine alumnus to be elected president of the university.
He graduated from the BFA Magistère program and the MASE DEA at Dauphine, the latter of which he co-led for many years. It has since evolved into a Master’s program in applied mathematics specializing in economics and finance. He also directed a third-year track at ENSAE and has been actively involved in the creation and co-direction of the Executive Master in Quantitative Finance at Dauphine Executive Education, a version of which will soon open at the London campus.
In 2016,Bruno Bouchard was appointed Vice-President of Dauphine’s Scientific Council. In this role, he spearheaded significant reforms, including enhancing the attractiveness of research laboratories, expanding international outreach, addressing disciplinary specificities, ensuring equitable resource allocation, and promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
For the past eight years, he has played a pivotal role in Dauphine’s evolution and the structuring of PSL. He has supported or directly led numerous strategic projects, including Graduate Programs, PR[AI]RIE, the DATA and cofund PSL programs, ISNS, PSL’s major initiatives such as TERRAE, and the Public Action Institute and its minor degree. These initiatives often integrate research, education, and engagement with society.
Bruno Bouchard has also served as an associate editor of three leading international journals, a member of the editorial board for the Springer Finance Book series, and a member of the meetings committee for the Bachelier Finance Society, the foremost international organization in the field.
