Women and Science in India: gendering Science or democratizing gender?
This research takes on the following issues:
What do women think of their role and their place in Research and Development in India; what are their research interests, their networking strategies and their connections; their relationship with their males colleagues; how does their domestic life interact with their professional life?
This research in the domain of development and gender economics focuses more specifically on the policies that may have encouraged Indian women to participate in the R&D sector and the impact of those policies. The relative growth in the number of women scientists when compared to the growth in R&D investment in India is currently very low and there are many aspects of this that have not yet been investigated by researchers in economics, sociology, and political science.
This research aims to fill these gaps. The results of the project will highlight the implications of public policy.

Saurabh Kumar

Dr. Jörg Franke
Saurabh Kumar is a program manager with over eight years of experience in project management and public policy, with a particular focus on the gender in South Asian cultures, societies and economies. He currently works at CUTS International. He was previously a visiting research fellow in the Subir Chowdhury program at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
