Studying the transformation of work in the digital and ecological age
The Work in Transitions Circle was born out of a desire to structure a collective reflection on environmental and digital transitions, and their effects on work and social relations in companies. This forum facilitates the integration of experiential insights and empirical research findings.
Its aim is to study the transformation of jobs and the reconfiguration of professional roles under the influence of the changes brought about by the enviromental and digital transition. At the interface between the world of research and the worlds of work, business and social relations, the Work in Transitions Circle is a forum for encounters, exchange and deliberation, where the science-society dialogue is put to the test, with the objective of grounding research initiatives in real-world challenges.
An incubator for research projects and a place for experimentation, it is also a space for showcasing the work of students from the Université Paris Dauphine - PSL, notably from the Master’s degree in Executive Education Negotiations and Social Relations and the Master’s degree in Initial Training Corporate Policies and Social Responsibilities. In keeping with its key commitment to produce and transmit, it seeks to build collective thinking and disseminate it.
Digital transformation and environmental transition represent major social and managerial challenges, at the heart of fundamental economic, regulatory and technological changes. They represent major strategic challenges for companies and public organizations alike.
Because of their exceptional nature, the digital transformation and the environmental transition are bringing about far-reaching changes, which will have a major impact on employment, but which are also leading to a radical transformation of work activities, professions, ways of working with others and acting together, and a transformation of the very meaning of work.
Faced with the scale of these transformations, which are still largely to come, few certainties and convictions are firmly anchored. The near future of the world of work remains largely undetermined and uncertain. The digital and ecological transitions are first and foremost the result of a whole range of choices and decisions, of individual and collective actions, which must be thought through from the perspective of economic and financial sustainability, as well as ecological and social sustainability.
The Circle is therefore committed to studying the ways in which these regulations are put to the test, and how they can be made to evolve. Among the various forms and sources of collective regulation, social, technological and environmental dialogue is a major focus of the Circle's attention, in its links with professional dialogue. In order to make collective progress, the members of the Work in Transitions Circle are convinced of the need to bring the academic world closer to the world of work, in order to bring together knowledge and action, knowledge and experience.
Academic research must work in collaboration with professionals in the field to explore and anticipate these transformations in contemporary workplace settings. Université Paris Dauphine – PSL is uniquely positioned to support such interdisciplinary approaches.
It is currently developing two major programs: Sustainable Dauphine and Dauphine Digital, and is a pioneer in the challenges of environmental and social transition, as well as the impact of artificial intelligence on our society. It draws on the combined expertise of several disciplines to support and shed light on the profound changes taking place in our society.

Work in Transitions Circle activities
Questioning current trends, producing knowledge useful for research
- A series of conferences open to students and the community of interested players, to cross perspectives and expertise, and debate the major issues of work in transitions.
- Workshops reserved for members of the Cercle, to bring to the fore key issues facing companies and institutions in the field that will enable us to produce a more in-depth analysis, in order to develop questions for research and tools for companies and social players.
- Reflections produced and published through various channels: conference and workshop reports on the website and in the scientific media Dauphine Éclairages ; publication of a collective work, bringing together the Cercle's analyses and productions.
Workshop in 2025
Artificial Intelligence for social dialogue
Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in labor relations management, but remains a largely unexplored subject. How can these tools transform and support collective negotiation ? What are the risks involved, and what opportunities do artificial intelligences create for negotiation ?
