Thesis
Jeanne Goulpier Battestini’s doctoral thesis, which she is writing under sociologist Béate Collet and physicist Christian Brouder, looks at institutional factors responsible for the underrepresentation of women in Physics and Computer Science at the Sorbonne.
According to the University’s own data, women represented just 15% to 30% of cohorts in physics and computer science between 2013 and 2017. By investigating institutional factors of discrimination, her research aims to identify potential levers of action that would encourage greater diversity in these subjects, which are highly prized in both research and on the labor market.
This very targeted case study on Sorbonne University should be exportable to other educational establishments and other disciplines, while also facilitating the transfer of its finding to other forms of discrimination.
