Prepare for the
French Civil-Service Exams
This is a one-year preparatory program for students holding a BAC+4.
It is embedded in the 2nd year of the Master's in Public Careers and Civil-Service Entrance Exams and is open to anyone who has completed their 1st year of a Master's program (in social science, economics, law, management, etc.) or received a diploma from an IEP (Institute of Political Studies) or Grande École in business.
The program culminates in the exams for various administrative bodies within the three branches of the French civil service:
- the State (central and decentralized)
- local government
- public hospitals
The preparatory program enables students to earn, under certain conditions, a 2nd-year degree in the Master's in Public Careers and Civil-Service Entrance Exams.
Master the specificity of exams
It prepares students for the specificities of this type of test (composition, summary note, analysis note, MCQs, training in the use of modern languages in a professional context)
- It prepares students for the methodology of preparing for competitive examinations, in the framework of a "preparation workshop" and a methodology course aimed at better understanding the expectations of competitive examination juries and the method of written tests
- It strengthens the skills of the trainees by tutoring them in small groups, encouraging them to work in pairs and preparing them to speak in public
- It offers a wide range of seminars, punctuated by regular training tests ("galops", tutorials) tailored to the needs of each student.
- It also trains eligible students in the various oral exams (presentation of oneself and one's motivations, professional situations, individualised exchanges, group orals).
- The preparation takes place during the academic year (mid-September to end of June). It aims to complete the training previously received, to teach students how to approach the various tests, to master the codes, and above all to enable them to acquire useful reflexes on the day of the competition.
Advantages of the Preparatory Program at Dauphine
Dual leadership (academics and senior civil servants)
This ensures that the teaching staff can respond to the needs expressed by students, while allowing the university to invite professionals that best fit the demands of this kind of program.
A manageable cohort of about 60 students
This facilitates interaction between students and faculty, along with a network of alumni who are frequently enlisted to provide instruction and interview coaching.
Individualized supervision
Students receive regular training (2 mock exams/year, plus weekly practice sessions) in the same format as the actual exams. Support is provided all the way through test completion (particularly when admissions interviews take place in the fall).
Université Paris Dauphine - PSL and SERVIR signed a partnership agreement in October 2023 relating to supporting students from Preparation for the Civil Service Exams to their success in the competitions.
This partnership allows students of the Insp,National Institute of Public Service (Ex-ENA) to benefit from support from a mentor, a former student of the Insp or the ENA, to increase their familiarity with the professions and the roles of the senior civil service. It also makes it easier to find an internship, with SERVIR providing these students with a network of senior civil servants who can recruit interns.

The number and variety of available exams provides students with a wide range of options. The following list is not exhaustive, but it gives an idea of the various opportunities. Students can receive guidance in terms of choosing the positions that seem best suited to their level of education.
