Public Policy - Master's Year 1

The first year of the Master's in Public Policy is organized into two semesters, running from September to June. All students follow a mandatory common course in the first semester titled "Sociology of Crises and Ecological Transition," along with an English course.

Students are divided into the four majors of the Master's program starting from the first semester. Each major offers a set of mandatory courses (between 5 and 7) and a list of optional courses (1 to 2 to be chosen from a list of 4 to 8, depending on the major).
In the second semester, students take between 5 and 6 mandatory courses, depending on the chosen major, and 1 to 2 optional courses.

The mandatory courses for the "Public Careers and Major Competitions" (CPGC) major are: public action, public finance, European issues, public law, economics, competition methodology, political and administrative institutions, contemporary issues, social issues. This major also includes a professional workshop.
The mandatory courses for the "Public Policy and Opinion" (PPO) major are: public action, statistical survey practice, collective action and interest representation, comparative political forces, European politics, labor and employment policies, transformations in public action, evaluation of public policies.
The mandatory courses for the "Urban Policy and Territorial Governance" (PUGT) major are: public action, history of urban policies, economic sociology, comparative political forces, urban transformations and socio-spatial inequalities, local authorities, transformations in public action, sustainable territories, housing policy, cultural practices and policies.
The mandatory courses for the "Corporate Policies and Social Responsibilities" (PERS) major are: sociology of work, statistical survey practice, economic sociology, gender and inequalities, corporate policies and labor relations, labor and employment policies, major statistical surveys, sociology of organizations.

Spanish and Ge rman are offered to all students as optional courses. Students from the PPO, PUGT, and PERS majors are also trained in field surveys.

Additionally, all students must choose between completing an internship (and writing an internship report) or conducting a research survey (and writing a research dissertation). If applicable, students follow either an internship workshop or a dissertation guidance workshop.

Students have the option to complete an internship (lasting at least 8 weeks) or conduct research during the first year of the Master's program, resulting in the writing of an internship or research dissertation. They receive both individual and collective support in either case.
Students who choose to write a research dissertation can benefit from high-level guidance from the researchers and faculty members of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute in Social Sciences (IRISSO), a laboratory in sociology and political science affiliated with the Master's program.
