Teaching Modalities
Schedule:
The 1st year of the Master's degree in Notarial Law starts in early September and ends in late April/early May. The academic year is divided into 2 semesters of 12 weeks of classes. After the classes and exams for semester 2, in early May, an internship of at least 8 weeks must be completed.
Curriculum:
Classes are taught in theory and practice modules by research professors and professionals from the business world. All courses are required. Each class forms a teaching unit, comprising 18 or 36 hours, combined with ECTS credits (30 ECTS per semester, for 60 ECTS per year).
- Classes in semester 1: Internal business law; Matrimonial property; Inheritance Law; Accountancy; Tax law; Family and Business Property Law; Insurance law.
- Classes in semester 2: Security and mortgage law; Real estate law; Commercial law; Criminal Law applicable to goods; Trust Law; Circulation and Transversality (case studies); Initiation to research (INAFON-tutored project or research paper or article); Skills Workshop; in addition to the internship.
Method of knowledge assessment:
Each teaching unit leads to one or more assessments, written or oral, to be graded by the student’s manager. Any continuing assessment exams take place during the semester; final written or oral exams take place during exam week at the end of each semester.
Two exam sessions are offered (session 1 and session 2 retakes).
Internships and Supervised Projects
As part of initiation to research, a tutored project is offered in partnership with INAFON (Notary training institute), and involves making training videos in small groups of 4 to 5 students, on subjects concerning assets, with chaptering, lexicon, appendices and knowledge questionnaires. This type of project helps develop and knowledge exposure and transfer in teams.
A mandatory 8-week internship is required to pass the 1st year of the Master’s degree in Notarial Law. This internship can be completed in a notary firm, or with an asset professional (genealogist, real estate agent, auctioneer, insurer, family officer, etc.). It can even be completed abroad. It takes place after the end of the second semester classes and exams and requires administrative and academic approval of a prior agreement, in coordination with the University’s internships office.
Students may take a gap year between the first and second years of the Master’s degree. The gap year is an opportunity to acquire additional personal or professional experience, in France or abroad. It requires prior authorization from an ad hoc commission, on presentation of a detailed plan.
